A stylish c.1968 solid 18 carat yellow gold Bueche Girod
Vital Bueche founded Bueche-Girod in Bienne in 1947. The company garnered such respect from the 1950s through the 70s that brands such as Cartier, Bulova and Universal Geneve used their cases and movements in many of their pieces
Frank Sinatra was known to have worn a Bueche-Girod whilst not a small portion of Scorsese’s budget for his movie ‘Casino’ was spent on Robert De Niro’s tri-colour piece
The golden oval dial is decorated with applied stick indices paired with baton hands
The solid gold rectangular case ref.7726 was one Bueche Girod also produced for Cartier. Similarly finished double signed examples pop up very now and then. This one remains in wonderfully clean condition
As well as being stamped ‘Y G’ alongside the reference number, the case back is boldly hallmarked to the inside. Alongside the obvious fineness marks and import marks for London 1968 is stamped the profile of Helvetia, the female national personification of Switzerland and the county’s hallmark for 18 carat gold
The original oval domed glass is clear with only light surface scratches
The brown pressed leather strap is of a similar vintage to the watch and in excellent condition
The Bueche Girod cal.69 17 jewel manual wind movement runs smoothly and keeps good time
