1970 9ct Gold Longines
1970 9ct Gold Longines
A rectangular case, oval dial 9 carat yellow gold Longines dating from 1970
The sleek silver dial remains in excellent condition, featuring black Roman Numerals, baton hands, ‘Longines’ and the brand’s iconic winged hourglass logo (the world’s oldest unchanged active trademark)
The solid gold case was made by David Shackman & Sons. A competitor of Dennisons at the time, they continued to make cases for major Swiss watch brands long after Dennisons went out of business in 1967
The rectangular case is in wonderful shape with signs of patination around the original synthetic crystal glass. The inside of the case-back bears assay marks for London 1970 alongside hallmarks for 9 carat gold. Above these stamps reads ‘Baume’, the exclusive importers of Longines watches into Britain and the British Empire until the late 1960s
Powering the watch is the in house, 17 jewel, manual wind cal.428 movement. A very clean example that runs smoothly and keeps excellent time
