1970s Sterling Silver Roy King
1970s Sterling Silver Roy King
A 1979 Sterling Silver piece by esteemed jeweller Roy King, winner of two first prizes, a second and a third at the British Modern Jewellery Exhibition in 1961. The winning pieces are now in the permanent collection of Goldsmith’s Hall
Alongside the renowned Anglo-Italian jeweller Andrew Grima, King was a pioneer of the ‘Bark Effect’, a desirable finish that lead to the acquisition of his pieces by celebrities such as Tom Jones and George Harrison, with Pattie Boyd (Harrison’s then wife) wearing one of King’s wedding bands to their ceremony
The clean white dial is decorated with black Roman numerals, black heavy diamond hands, a ‘chemin de fer’ minute track and King’s signature
The rectangular Sterling Silver case is reminiscent of the Cartier Tank (Cartier being a company for which King was an unaccredited manufacturer) and remains in superb condition
The case-back bears King’s classic statement hallmarks
Wound by the original synthetic cabochon sapphire set crown
Th original acrylic glass is clear and shows light signs of age related wear
Attached is a vintage NOS condition pressed leather strap that is fastened by the original Sterling Silver
The Swiss-made, manual wind Bueche-Girod movement runs smoothly and keeps good time
