1970s Vermeil Roy King
1970s Vermeil Roy King
A proper piece by esteemed jeweller Roy King, winner of two first prizes, a second and a third at the British Modern Jewellery Exhibition in 1961. The winning pieces are now in the permanent collection of Goldsmith’s Hall
Alongside the renowned Anglo-Italian jeweller Andrew Grima, King was a pioneer of the ‘Bark Effect’, a desirable finish that lead to the acquisition of his pieces by celebrities such as Tom Jones and George Harrison, with Pattie Boyd (Harrison’s then wife) wearing one of King’s wedding bands to their ceremony
This stunning Vermeil piece is reminiscent of the iconic Cartier Vendome, sharing such characteristics as the stepped bezel and crisp white dial adorned with black Roman numerals, Leaf hands and a chemin de fer minute track
The bold hallmarks to the case-back tell us the watch is Sterling Silver and was assayed in London in 1973. Powered by a Swiss-made, manual wind Bueche-Girod movement, the piece runs smoothly and keeps excellent time
The original Roy King pressed leather strap is in good condition, as is the original Sterling Silver buckle
A fabulous piece in excellent shape with only slight signs of wear to the plating on the case-back and underside of the buckle
