A delightful solid 9ct yellow gold Movado imported and assayed in London in 1924
For over a century the fabulous guilloché dial has aged and patinated. It’s decorated with blued ‘breguet moon’ hands, black Roman numerals, a subtle ‘chemin de fer’ minute track and delicate ‘MOVADO’ lettering at 12 o’clock
The solid gold case remains in good shape. The hinged case back is skilfully engraved with initials ‘D.P.’ and a date of 19th November 1936. Despite this, the inside bears bold import marks of a full 12 years prior alongside periodic service markings
Beneath the case back is a second layer, a fully hallmarked hinged dust cover to further protect the movement
The original signed acrylic glass remains clear and secure
Fitted to the fixed lugs is a green leather strap that has no doubt been with the watch for many decades, perhaps even a century
The 15 jewel manual wind movement remains in very good condition (thanks to the dust cover’s additional layer of protection). It runs smoothly and keeps good time (the crown must be held out when setting the hands)
