A gorgeous antique late 18th early 19th century decorative silver fob chain from which hangs an antique silver coin bearing the profile of the Holy Roman Emperor Joseph II, ruler of the Hapsburg monarchy from 1780 until his death ten years later
Decorative fob chains emerged with pocket watches in the late 18th century, gaining immense popularity in the Victorian era as fashionable accessories for men, evolving from utilitarian items for seals and keys into elaborate jewellery used to display status, family crests or sentimental charms
Wonderfully ornate, this masterfully formed double link silver fob chain is hallmarked in multiple places and fastens securely via a dog clip. It would have been worn from the fob pocket of a pair of breeches. Worn today it could be hung from a variety of places, including the belt loop of a pair of trousers
An amazing piece of history just as beautiful today as when it was made
