A tremendous c.1970s 14k yellow gold Baume & Mercier gents wristwatch retailed and double signed by Tiffany & Co
In the 70s the New York jeweller was the arbiter of taste, co-signing only pieces they deemed worthy of their Fifth Avenue boutique
This piece sports a lively copper tone, patinated or tropical sunburst dial accented by golden Dauphine hands. Baume & Mercier lettering and applied logo sits at 12 o’clock while the ‘Tiffany & Co’ is stamped at 6
The case, formed of 14 carat yellow gold, maintains sharp lines and facets. On the 9 o’clock side we see the Swiss squirrel hallmark for 14ct gold. This is also stamped above the reference on the brushed caseback
On the inside of the caseback is stamped a fineness mark 585 alongside the Swiss squirrel, ‘Baume & Mercier Geneve’ and the case makers mark of ‘PG’ for ‘Ponti Gennari & Cie’, renowned for manufacturing high quality cases and bracelets for brand such as Patek Philippe
Accenting the case is a synthetic cabochon sapphire set winding crown
Fitted is a NOS brown pressed leather strap
The clean Baume & Mercier signed Cal.1050 manual wind movement runs smoothly and keeps good time
