More a piece of history than a wristwatch, this solid 9ct gold Omega Automatic was purchased by a Dr Hemel from Bell Brothers Silversmiths and Watchmakers in Doncaster on the 4th December 1957

Not an inexpensive purchase at 67 pounds and 10 shillings, I like to think this was an early Christmas present from Dr Hemel to himself

The eggshell white sector dial remains in wonderful condition for its age and features a mix of gold applied Dauphine indices and flawlessly executed quarter hour Roman numerals.  These are skilfully paired with the applied gold Omega logo and dauphine hands

The solid gold case is in very fine condition with very minor dents to the case-back.  As well as hallmarks to the inside, one of the lugs is also stamped

One year later the leather strap was replaced by this outrageously stylish solid 9ct yellow gold woven bracelet made by John Grinsell & Sons in Birmingham in 1958

Stamped multiple times on both sides of the unique ladder clasp as well as at the lugs, I believe this bracelet to be a very sensible modification very much in keeping with the watch.  There are no signs of damage or stretch and the triple setting ladder clasp fastens securely and with a reassuring click

The Omega signed, Swiss made automatic movement runs smoothly and keeps excellent time

The original synthetic crystal glass is lightly scratched but clear

The watch is presented alongside its original suede lined box, cardboard outer, maintenance booklet, Omega guarantee and Bell Brothers receipt
