A wondrous 1970s 18k yellow gold Bueche-Girod ‘Baignoire’ wristwatch
Vital Bueche founded Bueche-Girod in Bienne in 1947. The company garnered such respect from the 1950s through the 70s that brands such as Cartier, Bulova and Universal Geneve used their cases and movements in many of their pieces
Frank Sinatra was known to have worn a Bueche-Girod whilst not a small portion of Scorsese’s budget for his movie ‘Casino’ was spent on Robert De Niro’s tri-colour piece
This piece features a golden oval dial decorated with black Roman numerals and baton hands
The Baignoire case (a style of case Bueche-Girod was known to have made for Cartier) is formed of 18 carat yellow gold and is accented by an elegant synthetic sapphire set winding crown
The inside of the case back is stamped with bold fineness markings alongside the profile of Helvetia, the female personification of Switzerland and the country’s hallmark for 18 carat gold
Fitted to the T-Bar lugs is a new blue pressed leather strap and gold tone buckle
Presented in original Bueche-Girod box and suede zip pouch
The manual Swiss made movement runs smoothly and keeps good time
