A tremendous 1976 18k yellow gold Montre Royale gents wristwatch
Despite originating in Geneva in the 1960s, the brand gained worldwide fame in 1973 when esteemed British jeweller Roy King acquired the marque
Under King’s leadership, La Montre Royale gained a distinct identity by merging high quality Swiss movements with sculptural, highly decorative British design
The marque’s avant-garde designs became known for their use of diamond and precious stone set bezels as well as hard semi-precious stone dials
This glorious example features an oval Tiger’s Eye dial presented in tremendous condition and decorated with elegant gilt Dauphine hands and the Montre Royale lettering and logo at 12 o’clock
The heavy 18k yellow gold British made case is in wonderful shape and features a bezel with each corner accented by applied white gold crescents masterfully set with diamonds
The inside of the case back bears bold hallmarks for London 1976 as well as an 18k fineness stamp
The winding crown is decorated with the marque’s logo, the profile of a King
The original brown alligator skin strap remains supple and very wearable without cracking or tears
Fastening the strap is the original solid 18k gold buckle, again bearing the profile of a King and a 750 fineness stamp
The very clean, Montre Royale signed Swiss made manual wind movement runs smoothly and keeps good time
A very wearable example of prime British jewellery design and artisanal craftsmanship
