Vintage 1970s 9ct Gold Bloodstone Ring

A vintage 9 carat yellow gold ring set with a flat top, oval cut Bloodstone

Assayed in Birmingham in 1974 with a maker’s mark of ‘L.W’

The red Jasper inclusions in the opaque green Chalcedony give this semi-precious stone its name

We learn from Pliny the Elder that magicians used it as a stone of invisibility 

The ring has maintained its shape and the stone is secure
