Vintage 1970s 9ct Gold Longines
Vintage 1970s 9ct Gold Longines
An elegant 1975 solid 9 carat yellow gold Longines reminiscent of Piagets of the same vintage
The bark finish dial is adorned with bold black baton indices, baton hands and ‘Longines’ alongside the brand’s iconic winged hourglass logo (the oldest unchanged active trademark registered with WIPO). It is in very good condition aside from a light mark above 5 o’clock
The dial’s finish continues through the sharp, clean bezel to the insane solid gold brickwork integrated bracelet. The finish remains clear and crisp and the links supple and secure
As pictured, there is a little more wear to the links close to the case at both 12 and 6 o’clock than there is to the rest of the bracelet. There is also a small, well executed solder repair to underside of the bracelet (pictured) near the three setting ladder clasp which is not at all visible from the other side
The outside of the brushed case-back is clear and unmarked while the inside bears hallmarks for London 1975
The case was made by David Shackman & Sons. The company was a competitor of Dennison’s and survived long after Dennison went out of business in 1967. The case back is also stamped ‘Baume’ which, up until the mid 1960s, was the sole importers of Longines watches into Britain
The original crystal glass is unmarked and clear
The Swiss made Longines 17 jewel manual wind movement cal. L847.4 has just undergone a full and comprehensive service. It runs smoothly and keeps good time
All in all a super swag piece
