A Sterling Silver piece by esteemed jeweller Roy King, winner of two first prizes, a second and a third at the British Modern Jewellery Exhibition in 1961. The winning pieces are now in the permanent collection of Goldsmith’s Hall
Alongside the renowned Anglo-Italian jeweller Andrew Grima, King was a pioneer of the ‘Bark Effect’, a desirable finish that lead to the acquisition of his pieces by celebrities such as Tom Jones and George Harrison, with Pattie Boyd (Harrison’s then wife) wearing one of King’s wedding bands to their ceremony
The super clean white dial is decorated with black leaf hands, matching black Roman numerals, a tasteful minute tracks and of course the signature of the ‘Saviour of Sterling’ himself at 12
The wonderfully tarnished stepped bezel is reminiscent of the Cartier Vendôme (a brand for which King was once an unaccredited manufacturer) while the back of the solid silver monocoque case bears the brand’s iconic statement hallmarks (in this case for London 1979)
The patinated hinged/sprung bangle is stamped in 4 separate locations and was also assayed in London the same year. It can be removed to accommodate a leather strap
The original acrylic glass remains clear and secure
The watch can undergo a professional polish upon request if this King is your style but patina/tarnish isn’t
The Swiss made, manual wind FHF cal.69 movement runs smoothly and keeps good time
