Algernon joined the celebrated family firm Asprey as an artist and designer in 1933. He acquired such a reputation as an outstanding designer and goldsmith that he was able to leave the family business in 1971 to set up his own firm, Algernon Asprey Ltd of 27 Bruton Street

The blade bears bold hallmarks for London 1977 alongside the profile of Queen Elizabeth II as the piece was assayed during the year of her Silver Jubilee
