Vintage 1970s Sterling Silver Roy King
Vintage 1970s Sterling Silver Roy King
A Sterling Silver wristwatch by esteemed jeweller Roy King, winner of two first prizes, a second and a third at the British Modern Jewellery Exhibition in 1961. The winning pieces are now in the permanent collection of Goldsmith’s Hall
Alongside the renowned Anglo-Italian jeweller Andrew Grima, King was a pioneer of the ‘Bark Effect’, a desirable finish that lead to the acquisition of his pieces by celebrities such as Tom Jones and George Harrison, with Pattie Boyd (Harrison’s then wife) wearing one of King’s wedding bands to their ceremony
The bark effect bangle bracelet’s finish continues through to the flawless dial, framed by a stylish stepped bezel accented by the sleek winding crown
The brand’s iconic buckle clasp allows for a good range of adjustment
The case-back bears bold hallmarks, as does the bracelet
The original acrylic crystal glass remains in good condition
The Swiss made Bueche-Girod manual wind movement runs smoothly and keeps excellent time
A sensational example of expert jewellery and watch design
