A 1977 sterling silver vermeil piece by esteemed jeweller Roy King, winner of two first prizes, a second and a third at the British Modern Jewellery Exhibition in 1961. The winning pieces are now in the permanent collection of Goldsmith’s Hall
The clean white dial is decorated with black Roman numerals, black heavy diamond hands, a ‘chemin de fer’ minute track and King’s signature
The rectangular sterling silver vermeil monocoque case is reminiscent of the Cartier Tank (Cartier being a brand for which King was once an unaccredited manufacturer) and remains in excellent condition without wear to the heavy yellow gold plating
The case-back bears King’s classic statement hallmarks for London 1977 alongside Queen Elizabeth II’s profile as the watch was assayed the year of her Silver Jubilee
Wound by the original synthetic cabochon sapphire set crown (slightly abraded/chipled)
The original acrylic glass is in good condition
The brown lizard skin strap has no doubt accompanied the watch for many years. The original sterling silver vermeil buckle is in excellent condition
The Swiss-made, manual wind FHF cal.69 movement runs smoothly and keeps good time
