An extraordinary solid 18 carat white and yellow gold ‘basket weave’ Alfred Dunhill money clip

We see Dunhill’s adoption of the basket weave finish succeeding the popular Samodorok technique, most notably employed by renowned goldsmiths such as Fabergé and a method of finishing that was influential in the design of Dunhill smoking accessories of the 1960s
Alongside Dunhill, Cartier, Asprey, Van Cleef and S.T. Dupont were known also to employ the basket weave finish, principally used to decorate the marques’ solid gold luxury lighters
I’d say this is the height of the extravagance and sophistication. Others might say it verges on profligacy as the clip is worth more in gold that the money it can feasibly hold
