A sensational piece of horological history, this Sterling silver c.1930 travel clock by Juvenia (a Swiss marque with a rich history of precision watchmaking and technical innovation) remains in spectacular cosmetic and mechanical condition
The case, no larger than a vesta case of a similar vintage, is formed of the distinctly Swiss 93.5% Sterling silver. The intricate guilloché finish surrounds a polished plaque, bare and lending itself to monogramming
Alongside Juvenia stamps and patent markings, the ‘perlage’ innards of the case bear an abundance of hallmarks. Most noticeable are the Swiss Swan mark for Sterling silver as well as one of my favourites, the ‘Rampant Bear’. Stamped beside the bear is a ‘B’, informing us the case was assayed in Bienne, Switzerland post 1881
The hinged case snaps open to reveal the silver cased removable watch. Presented in wonderful condition, the cream dial is decorated with Art Deco style Arabic numerals with original lume, blued steel Kite hands again with Lume intact, a subtle minute track and of course ‘Juvenia Sport’ beneath 12 o’clock
The Sterling silver casing of the watch again is hallmarked in multiple locations (bear and swan included) and houses the clean Swiss made, 15 jewel manual wind Juvenia movement. Wound from the 12 o’clock crown it runs smoothly and keeps good time
