A very RARE BIRD! A 1976 BLACK DIAL Sterling Silver tank by esteemed jeweller Roy King, winner of two first prizes, a second and a third at the British Modern Jewellery Exhibition in 1961. The winning pieces are now in the permanent collection of Goldsmith’s Hall
Alongside the renowned Anglo-Italian jeweller Andrew Grima, King was a pioneer of the ‘Bark Effect’, a desirable finish that lead to the acquisition of his pieces by celebrities such as Tom Jones and George Harrison, with Pattie Boyd (Harrison’s then wife) wearing one of King’s wedding bands to their ceremony
Having worked as an unaccredited manufacturer for Cartier, I believe King earnt the right to produce a Tank of his own
The flawless black dial is decorated with King’s signature and silvered baton hands
The Sterling Silver monocoque case remains in lovely condition. The case back bears King’s iconic statement hallmarks
Wound by the original synthetic cabochon sapphire set crown
The original Roy King black pressed leather strap and Sterling Silver buckle are both in excellent condition
The Swiss-made, manual wind FHF cal.69 movement runs smoothly and keeps good time
